IAS/IFS officers will not appear in Civil Services Examination 2026

Digital Desk, New Delhi. Union Public Service Commission on Thursday released the notification for Civil Services Examination, 2026. This time the notification is in discussion due to the changes made in the rules.

UPSC has clarified that any candidate working in IAS or IFS will not be eligible to appear in the 2026 examination.

If a candidate is appointed to IAS or IFS after the preliminary examination, he will not be eligible to appear for the main examination even after qualifying the preliminary examination.

If the appointment takes place after the commencement of the Main Examination but before the declaration of result, his/her name will not be considered for any service.

IAS/IFS officers will not appear for Civil Services Examination 2026

Candidates already selected in IPS will not be eligible for re-entry into the same service through Civil Services Examination, 2026.

Candidates selected in IPS or Central Services Group 'A' in the Civil Services Examination, 2026 will have the option to appear in the next year's examination on obtaining one-time exemption from attending training from the concerned authority.

The civil services preliminary examination will be held on May 24. UPSC has made face authentication mandatory for all candidates at examination centers and imposed strict eligibility restrictions for candidates already appointed to certain services.

UPSC announces 933 vacancies for 2026

These changes were announced in the notification issued for Civil Services Examination, 2026. The Commission has announced 933 vacancies for this year's recruitment process.

Of these, 33 posts are reserved for candidates with special disabilities. This prestigious examination is conducted by UPSC every year in three stages – Preliminary, Mains and Interview.

Through this, officers of Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service and Indian Police Service etc. are selected.

What did UPSC say?

UPSC has said that to ensure safe and smooth examination, all candidates will have to undergo mandatory facial recognition at the examination venue.

Candidates are advised to reach the examination venue well in time for facial recognition/verification and frisking.

Applicants are advised to use their Aadhar Card as an identity proof for seamless and seamless verification of identity and other details.
