Jagran Correspondent, Dehradun: The district administration and Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) finally gave a strong message against the illegal religious structures erected on government land in the city. In view of this, the administration and MDDA demolished an illegal tomb located in Ghantaghar area late on Thursday night by running a bulldozer. The action was so secret and fast that the encroachers did not even get a chance to think and understand anything.

This action was taken after clear instructions from the government and notice issued earlier. The administration and authorities have made it clear that illegal occupation of government land, in whatever form, will no longer be tolerated. In the earlier notice issued by MDDA, it was clarified that the mausoleum built in the premises of HNB Complex, Dispensary Road, near Ghantaghar, is illegally constructed on government land.

The construction of the tomb was not only creating hindrance in public facilities, but this area was also considered sensitive from the point of view of traffic and security. The authority had given seven days time to the tomb management and given instructions to submit the records related to ownership and construction, but no satisfactory documents were presented within the stipulated period.

This is why the action took place at night

According to sources, considering the possible law and order situation, the administration decided to take action late at night. MDDA's enforcement team reached the spot in the presence of heavy police force and within a few hours the entire tomb was demolished. There was no protest or uproar during the action. Magistrate, police officers and senior MDDA officials were present on the spot.

Big example of encroachment on government land

According to MDDA officials, the place where the mazar was built was government land and no religious or commercial construction of any kind was allowed there. The authority says that this action is not limited to just one structure, but in the coming days, the campaign against illegal encroachments will be further intensified across the city.

no one above the law

This action of MDDA is being seen as a strict administrative message in the city. Authority Vice President Banshidhar Tiwari has made it clear that now bulldozers will be used directly against those who occupy government land in the name of religion, pressure or political recommendations.

Any kind of illegal construction on government land, in whatever name or form, is an offense under law. In such cases the policy of the administration is completely clear that first notice, then action. Valid documents were not submitted within the stipulated time, hence demolition action was taken as per rules. This action is not against any sentiment or class, but in favor of the law. Encroachment on public land will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Similar strict steps will be taken against all the illegal encroachments identified. The timing and method of action was strategically decided to maintain law and order. The objective of the authority is clear that the government land should be free from encroachment and any kind of disorder should not be allowed to flourish.
