Jagran correspondent, Almora. After the case of ragging came to light in SSJ Government Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Medical College), Almora, the college administration has taken a strict stance and taken strict action against the guilty senior students.
A financial fine of Rs 25,000 has been imposed on four senior MBBS students for ragging with junior MBBS students. Whereas two other senior students have been banned from all academic and non-academic programs organized in the medical college for the next six months.
The matter is between MBBS senior and junior students of the year 2024 and 2025 batch. The junior students had given a written complaint to the college principal alleging that some senior students called them to their rooms and forced them to do extra co-scholastic activities.
During this period the junior students remained mentally and physically disturbed and felt hurt. Considering the seriousness of the matter, an emergency meeting of the Anti Ragging Committee was organized in the Medical College on Tuesday.
In the meeting, after a thorough review of the complaints, statements of the students and available facts, it was decided to take action against the senior students found guilty.
According to the college administration, a fine of Rs 25,000 has been imposed on the four senior students in whose room the incident took place, under the guidelines of the UGC and National Medical Commission (NMC).
At the same time, an order has been issued to keep two other senior students away from all college activities for six months after their allegations of pressurizing juniors to do work related to their subject were proved.
The administration has made it clear that ragging will not be tolerated under any circumstances. More strict action will be taken against such incidents in future.-Prof. CP Bhaisoda, Principal, Medical College Almora.
