Jagran Correspondent, Dehradun: Uttarakhand Ka Mausam: After being in the grip of fog, mist and cold day for three consecutive days, there was partial relief in the weather of Uttarakhand on Sunday. In most of the plain districts of the state including the capital Dehradun, there was sunshine since morning, which provided relief from the chill.
An increase of two to three degrees Celsius was recorded in the maximum temperature in Dehradun. However, due to frost in the morning and evening in the high altitude areas of the hill districts, the temperature remains around zero. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of fog for the plain districts for Monday, while there are chances of light rain or snowfall in the four hilly districts.
Visibility was extremely low due to dense fog and cold winds in the plains of the state for the last three days. This had a direct impact on road traffic, rail and air services. The situation at many places in the morning was such that drivers had to drive with headlights on even during the day.
Due to the cold wave, there was less excitement in the market and people remained hiding in their homes. Due to fog, the temperature in the plains dropped by nine degrees Celsius below normal. The situation started improving as the sun rose on Sunday. People were seen sunbathing in parks and public places.
Due to sunlight, the moisture accumulated on the roads also started drying, due to which the problem of slipping was reduced and the traffic remained relatively smooth. The weather also became favorable to some extent for tourism activities. However, due to the effect of fog in other cities including Delhi, six flights reached Dehradun airport late.
Weather may change again in two to three days
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather may change again in the next two to three days. There are signs of rapid decline in temperature. Yellow alert has been issued for Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts. Dense fog is expected at some places in these districts. There are chances of light rain or snowfall at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts.
