Jagran correspondent, Kanpur. Snowfall in Gulmarg, Kashmir has indicated a major change in the weather. The effect of cold has increased in the city since Sunday evening. One can feel the shivering cold as soon as one steps out of the house. The average wind speed is expected to reach 10 km per hour by Monday, due to which the chances of cold wave starting have increased. There is a possibility of Monday being a cold day also.
Meteorologist Dr. SN Sunil Pandey said that by Sunday evening, more than two inches of snow had accumulated in Gulmarg, Kashmir. Snowfall has continued in the evening also. Due to this, there can be a big change in the weather of Kanpur and surrounding areas. There was fog and cloudy weather on Sunday morning also. It was sunny during the day and there is a possibility of sunshine on Monday also. The sunshine will be stronger on Monday than Sunday but cold wave is expected to start from Tuesday. Monday may also be a cold day. The maximum temperature on Sunday was 18.4 degrees Celsius, which is 3.3 degrees below normal.
On Monday it may go down to six degrees below normal. The minimum temperature on Sunday was 6.4 degrees which is 3.2 degrees below normal. On Sunday the wind direction also became north-westerly. The maximum temperature at Chakeri Air Force Station on Sunday was 18 degrees and the minimum temperature was 8.8 degrees.
Dr. Pandey said that in a cold wave, the air temperature in a large area falls much more than normal, causing severe cold and this condition persists for several days, affecting the health and life of the people. In cold wave, the minimum temperature drops below normal by 4.5 degrees to 6.4 degrees centigrade.
