Delhi government has directed that women employees should not be kept in the office after working hours.
State Bureau, New Delhi. The Women and Child Development Department of the Delhi Government has directed its branches to ensure that women employees are not kept in the office after working hours unless it is absolutely necessary. In an advisory issued earlier this week, the department also asked branches to ensure that if women have to work late, proper arrangements are made to drop them home safely.
The advisory states that the safety, dignity and well-being of women employees is of paramount importance and emphasizes that it is the responsibility of the department to ensure a safe and conducive working environment at all times. It said that when women employees are required to remain in the office beyond normal working hours, it requires clear safety measures, clear responsibilities and strict monitoring so that no woman is put at risk while performing official duties.
It is, therefore, directed that no woman employee shall be asked or expected to remain in the office beyond normal working hours, unless it is absolutely avoidable. In all such special cases, the concerned branch head and reporting officer will be personally responsible for ensuring his safe return.
