This is because youth easily get intoxicating substances in the streets of Haldwani. Late Wednesday night, a loving couple was brutally murdered in Haldwani's Galla Mandi due to a fight that broke out due to excessive drug consumption.

Under the influence of intoxication, the young youth showed no mercy at all in crushing the heads of deceased Shubham Tamta and Lakshmi Pokharia. In areas like Gandhi Nagar, Banbhulpura, Rajpura, around Gaula River, Kathgodam, Unchapul and RTO Road etc. of Haldwani, youth easily get hold of raw liquor, hashish, drug injections etc. Underage peddlers supplying drugs are flourishing in Haldwani. Case-1: 24 year old youth arrested for selling drug injections. Mangalpadav outpost incharge Gaurav Joshi was on patrol at 11.40 pm on 11th February. During this time, they found a young man with a bag in a vacant plot in street no. 08. Upon investigation, 125 drug injections were recovered from him. During interrogation, the accused revealed his name and address as 24-year-old Vicky Valmiki, resident of Ambedkar Nagar. SI Gaurav has arrested the youth under the NDPS Act. Case-2: 26-year-old youth found selling drugs in the parking lot near Sindhi intersection. On February 11, Haldwani Kotwali police found a 26-year-old youth selling drug injections in the vehicle parking stand near Sindhi intersection. Police found 63 drug injections from him. During interrogation, the youth revealed his name as 26-year-old Anand Jaiswal, resident of Samta Ashram Gali Mangalpadav. Said that he had brought this injection from Vicky Valmiki. Case-3: 110 pouches of raw liquor seized from Mukhani police station area. Police has recovered 110 pouches of raw liquor from Mukhani police station area. During patrolling, a person was seen standing in the dark on the side of the road leading to Saifi Farm near Char Dham Temple in Fatehpur. Police found liquor in the bag near him. During interrogation, the youth told that he had brought raw liquor from Mahauli forest. He has given his name as Balkar Singh resident of Kelakheda district Udham Singh Nagar. Police have arrested the 40 year old youth.
