Jagran correspondent, Ghaziabad. The Food Safety Department has formed five teams to prevent adulteration of food items during Holi. These teams will raid the shops and warehouses of food vendors in the district. If adulteration is found, action will be taken against the concerned.
Chief Food Safety Officer Ashutosh Rai said that during Holi, mawa, dry fruits, oil, ghee and cheese are used in large quantities and there is a possibility of adulteration in these food items. Apart from this, colored kachari (sweet sweets) are also sold with harmful food colouring.
Eating adulterated food has a bad effect on people's health. Teams have been formed to stop adulterated food items. On the instructions of the District Magistrate, a daily campaign is being conducted against those involved in adulteration. Any person having information about adulteration in food items can directly complain to the Food Safety Department. The team of Food Safety Department will reach the spot and take samples of food items and test them.
750 jars seized on suspicion of poor quality
The Food Safety Department on Friday raided Royal Foods, a firm in Kavinagar. 1,800 jars of Mangaldeep brand butter margarine blend were seized. These included 150 1-litre jars, 900 500-ml jars and 750 200-ml jars. The total value of the seized goods is ₹3.45 lakh.
Two samples were sent to the lab for testing. Additionally, SG Edible Oils store in Govindapuram mandi was raided and three samples of mustard oil and soybean oil were seized for testing on suspicion of adulteration. The Chief Food Safety Officer said that the samples have been sent to the lab for testing and further action will be taken based on the lab's test report.
