Jagran correspondent, Lucknow. Fearing adulteration in edible oils, the Food Safety and Drug Administration seized 25 thousand liters of oil, worth about Rs 34 lakh, from a Campbell Road-based firm. The team also collected eight samples of oil from the spot which are being sent for testing. Currently, the firm has been banned from doing business until the oil report comes. Where the oil was supplied by the firm is also being investigated.
FSDA Assistant Commissioner Vijay Pratap Singh had received information that various brands of edible oils were being sold adulterated with other substances at Lakshmi Traders located on Campbell Road. When the team raided it, refined soybean oil (Urja brand), refined rice bran oil (Kamal brand), mustard oil (Sampoorna brand) and sesame oil (Metro brand) were recovered.
According to the Commissioner, 25316 liters of oil has been seized. The commissioner said that the businessman has a license for packaging blended oil. Two or more different edible oils are mixed in it. While packaging, the quantity of oil added has to be mentioned regularly. The businessman was not aware of which oil was mixed in which brand and in what quantity.
On this basis, action has been taken due to the possibility of adulteration. Further action will be taken after the reports of the samples come. Expiry sweets were being prepared, operation of the shop was banned. FSDA team investigated at Old Kamal Gajak and Petha located in Hanskheda Para, where a large quantity of expired and substandard sweets were recovered.
The team immediately confiscated the recovered goods and banned operations at the establishment. The team destroyed 70 kg of Patisha which was kept for a long time. On suspicion of adulteration, samples of Patisa, Gajak, gram flour, black sesame, peanuts, rewari and raisins have been taken. Apart from this, a large quantity of gram flour and raisins were also seized.
The Commissioner said that apart from expired sweets, sweets were being made in very unhygienic conditions. Sweets were prepared from here and sent to other shops.
