State Bureau, Srinagar. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police station Bemina red-handed for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant.
According to the information received, a person had given a written complaint to the ACB. It was alleged in the complaint that an ASI Mukhtar Ahmed Khan, resident of Neva Pulwama, posted at Bemina Police Station, was demanding bribe from the complainant in the case registered under FIR No. 88/2025 at Bemina Police Station.
The accused ASI is investigating the said case and a challan has been issued in the court in the matter. In his complaint, the complainant accused the ASI that he had threatened to implicate him (the complainant) if his demands were not met.
ACB took cognizance of the complaint and investigated. During investigation, the complaint was found to be true and accordingly, case FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar.
During the investigation, a plan was hatched to catch the accused ASI Mukhtar Ahmed Khan red handed and today he was caught when he took a bribe of Rs 8,000 from the complainant. He was searched on the spot in the presence of impartial witnesses and bribe money was recovered from him. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
