Bhagalpur city connected to Guru Circuit, religious tourism and employment will get a boost
Jagran correspondent, Bhagalpur. Bhagalpur city has been included in the Guru circuit of the state. A big, religious and historical achievement has been added with the name appearing in the e-brochure of the Tourism Department. This is expected to give new expansion to the Sikh community and religious tourism and new impetus to employment.
Gurdwara Badi Sangat, Bhagalpur has special historical importance in Sikhism. The travels of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji are mentioned in many texts related to Sikh history.
It is believed that in the year 1667, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji came to Bhagalpur and stayed for 40 days at Budhanath Ghat, Bhagalpur near Naya Bazaar. A stone tablet related to that time is still safe here, which is respectfully called 'Shraddhaparduk Chowki Sahib'.
Every Amavasya, an ancient handwritten copy of the Guru Granth Sahib is placed at Chowki Sahib, keeping the Sikh traditions alive even today.
17 Sikh families reside here
Sardar Harshpreet Singh, media in-charge of Gurdwara Management Committee, said that at present about 17 Sikh families reside in Bhagalpur. There is an atmosphere of joy in the community due to the inclusion of Bhagalpur in the Guru Circuit. This will not only give respect to religious faith, but will also increase the number of devotees and tourists coming from India and abroad.
Guru Circuit is expected to benefit the city at both social and economic levels. Gurdwara Management Committee member Jaspal Singh says that this will create local employment opportunities. Hotels, transport and small traders will benefit. The historical and cultural identity of Bhagalpur will be further strengthened on the national stage.
There was a plan for the conservation of historical Gurudwaras in 2018.
The Tourism Department had planned for the conservation and development of historical Gurudwaras in the year 2018. Under this scheme, special importance was given to the Gurudwaras of Nathnagar and Bhagalpur. The departmental team reached the spot, inspected it and collected historical facts.
There is already Jain circuit and Buddhist circuit
Jain circuit and Buddhist circuit already exist in Anga area and now Guru circuit has also joined this chain. According to the data of the Tourism Department, so far in the month of January this year, more than 12 thousand domestic tourists have reached Bhagalpur, while more than 30 foreign tourists have come to different parts of the district.
During the year 2025 (January to December), 14,46,301 domestic and 699 foreign tourists had come to Bhagalpur, while in the year 2024, 18,28,262 domestic and 653 foreign tourists had arrived.
