Jagran correspondent, Bhagalpur. A well-planned conspiracy to grab the insurance money was busted on Wednesday. An insurance amount of Rs 1.38 crore was claimed on the basis of fake documents of birth and death of the 'unborn daughter', but the fraud was caught at the last moment.

In this matter, a case has been registered against father Shivshankar Sharma and mother Manju Sharma in Burari police station under sections like fraud, forgery and other charges. The FIR has been lodged by LIC branch manager Ashraf Raj.

It is alleged that both of them created an imaginary identity named Sakshi Kumari, pretending to be their daughter and took an insurance policy in her name and submitted a claim for the amount to be received after death. The accused tried to mislead the insurance company by submitting fake birth certificate, death certificate and other documents.

After the documents were submitted, the process of payment of the insurance amount had also started. However, as per LIC's policy, a field investigation is conducted to verify each death claim. In this investigation, the conspiracy was exposed, after which the insurance amount was put on hold.

Resorted to forged documents and misleading statements

The investigation revealed that Shivshankar and Manju had systematically shown the existence of a daughter who in reality never existed. They resorted to forged documents and misleading statements to get insurance benefits. The accused had presented the documents related to the death of the unborn daughter before LIC on 25 March 2025 and 22 May 2025.

Investigation also revealed that the accused prepared documents like medical treatment records, mother and child protection cards along with fake birth-death certificates and submitted them to the insurance company. Through these fabricated records, an attempt was made to influence the claim evaluation process and release of insurance amount.

Evidence of only two sons found in investigation

Investigation revealed that Shivshankar Sharma and Manju Sharma have only two sons, one of whom is 15-year-old Sangam Sharma and the other is 13-year-old Satyam Sharma. It was also confirmed in the statements of public representatives and neighbors that there was no daughter named Sakshi Sharma in their family nor was there any mention of her in any record of the village.
