Rijiju said that the law passed by the Parliament has to be followed.

Jagran Bureau, New Delhi. In the budget session starting from Wednesday, the budget is the most important one, but even before that, indications are emerging that some meetings will be marred by noise. One reason for this is that elections are to be held in five states as soon as the session ends, hence political heat will be seen.

In the all-party meeting held on Tuesday, the government rejected the opposition's demand for discussion on the VB-Jiramji law and SIR controversy. In the last session, Parliament had passed the VB-Jiramji Bill and in the same session, SIR was discussed in the name of electoral reforms. Rejecting the opposition's demands, the government said these issues have already been debated and we cannot "reverse the gears".

At the same time, the main opposition party Congress strongly criticized the government for not revealing its legislative agenda in the all-party meeting a day before the budget session. On the other hand, the first phase of the budget session will begin on Wednesday with President Draupadi Murmu's joint address to both the houses of Parliament, in which the general budget will be the most important legislative agenda in the Lok Sabha on February 1.

The first phase of the budget session will continue till February 13 and after a four-week break, the second phase will start from March 9 and continue till April 2. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh presided over the all-party meeting called by the government on Tuesday for the smooth conduct of the session. In this meeting, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, Trinamool Congress's Sagarika Ghosh, CPI(M)'s John Brittas and other opposition members expressed serious objection to not sharing the agenda of government work.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that it will be shared at the appropriate time. According to sources, all the opposition parties are demanding discussion on issues like abolishing MNREGA and bringing a new employment scheme named VB Jiramji, flaws in SIR, ED raids in election states, US tariffs, foreign policy, air pollution, falling rupee and ban on internet media use by teenagers.

The opposition parties argued that the VB-Jiramji Bill was passed despite its serious objections and opposition. On this, Rijiju said that the law passed by the Parliament has to be followed and we cannot reverse the gear. On Trinamool Congress's demand for discussion on SIR in Bengal, he said that in the last session there was extensive discussion on electoral reforms and the demand for debate again is inappropriate. He asked the opposition to raise their issues but not create ruckus.

On the question of not sharing the legislative agenda after the meeting, he said that this is the first session of the year and usually the list of government business is shared after the President's address. However, the government is ready to share its agenda and this is not an issue. The main goal is to run the Parliament smoothly. Trinamool MP Sagarika Ghosh, who attended the meeting, said that we strongly raised our voice to raise our issues and give time to the opposition, saying that Parliament is not a one-way street nor just a notice board for the government.

Awaiting the report of the inquiry committee for impeachment against Justice Verma: Rijiju

The process of impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma, who was sent back from Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court after wads of burnt notes were found at his official residence, is unlikely to go ahead in the first phase of the budget session.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said the process of impeaching Justice Verma is underway and the government is waiting for the report of the three-member committee constituted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to investigate the allegations against him. The Speaker had formed this committee on August 12 during the monsoon session last year to investigate the allegations of corruption against Justice Verma.
