Jagran correspondent, Greater Noida. The death of a three-year-old child by drowning in water from a pit in Dalelgarh village of Dankaur area is the result of the negligence of the Greater Noida Authority. The mafia kept making deep pits by mining soil on the land of the notified area, but the authority did not even bother to stop it and fill the pits.
Being a new fallow land, the maintenance of this land is directly the responsibility of the authority, despite this the authority was negligent. The villagers had also complained to the authority officials to wake them up from their sleep, yet the authority officials did not fall on deaf ears. If the authority had filled these potholes in time or taken safety measures around them, this accident could have been prevented.
Farmer's land 300 meters away from the incident site
There are pits at various places on about two bighas of new fallow land. According to the villagers, these pits are somewhere between five to 20 feet deep. Farmer Dharamveer says that out of the farmers whose land has been allotted by the authority, a part of it is his and his brother's land.
This land is 300 meters away from the incident site, this land is not theirs. Most of the pits here are filled with water. There is waterlogging in the pit due to lack of drainage. Along with the danger of falling, people also fear the spread of disease. Many times, demands have been made to the district administration and authorities to fill the potholes or put up fencing around them, but till date no action has been taken.
The authority gets alerted as soon as the notified land is occupied, why ignored here?
Villagers say that there are many such lands in the notified area of the authority, where development work has not started yet. In such a situation, if the farmers, whose land has been notified by the Authority, do any kind of small construction on a temporary basis, the Authority's team immediately reaches there, but the soil kept on being dug on this land and deep pits were formed, but the Authority did not even bother to take action, let alone inspect the spot even once.
On investigation of the place where the accident took place in Dalelgarh, it was found that it was the land of Khasra number 373. This is the notified land of the authority, but development work has not started yet. The temple near which the incident took place is owned by three farmers. A permanent staircase has been built from the side of the temple, which leads towards the pit. The priest of the temple told that everyone was busy in worship, during which the child reached the pit through the stairs. The authority appeals to inform the authority and administration before holding any kind of private event in the villages, so that all security arrangements can be made there.
