Jagran correspondent Noida. Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FONERVA) has expressed serious concern regarding the safety of drinking water and health of citizens in Noida. In this regard, Fonrava has written a letter to the Chief Executive Officer, Noida Authority, urging him to pay immediate attention to the poor condition of the old sewer lines and take concrete steps.
Phonerwa general secretary KK Jain said that recently, contaminated drinking water supply due to sewage leakage in Indore led to a serious health emergency, in which several people died and hundreds of citizens fell ill. He said that this incident is a strong warning to all urban authorities in the country.
According to KK Jain, the Noida Authority normally takes precautions during water supply, but sewer-related problems still remain serious in the old sectors of the city. At many places, there is continuous leakage from old and damaged sewer lines, due to which there is a risk of contamination of drinking water.
Despite improvements in some areas, many sectors are still neglected. Fonarwa has demanded that old sewer lines with frequent leakages should be replaced on priority basis. Also, prompt and permanent solution to all pending problems related to sewer and water supply should be ensured.
Apart from this, a request has also been made to conduct regular and mandatory testing of water from every water supply tank in the morning and evening. Phonerwa says that these steps taken in time will be helpful in preventing any possible health disaster and the health of the citizens of Noida will be safe.
