Jagran correspondent, Muzaffarpur. Water is life, but in the city it is no less than poison. This is because every drop of water reaching homes through pipelines is diseased. People are becoming seriously ill after drinking this. Even if it is not there, the pipelines of the Municipal Corporation and PHED are burst at many places. There are announcements in the name of repairs, not solutions.

A population of five lakhs in the urban area is forced to drink dirty water. Despite paying fees to the Municipal Corporation, contaminated water is being supplied to homes through pipelines. There are leakages at many places in the dilapidated pipeline passing through the drains.

Due to this, dirty water from the drain is also reaching the houses. Neither the Municipal Corporation nor the PHED purified the water before supply, nor was its purity checked in the water testing laboratory. People are falling ill unknowingly by drinking this water. Many would have even lost their lives.

Supply of contaminated drinking water due to these reasons

One dozen wards most affected

However, in almost every area of the city, there are complaints of drain water coming out along with the water supplied by the Municipal Corporation. But a dozen wards are most affected by this. For the past one year, maximum complaints of contaminated water are being received from Ward 2, Ward 3, Ward 11, Ward 33, Ward 32, Ward 34, Ward 25, Ward 42, Ward 44.

Ward 34 councilor Chanda Kumari says that there are leakages in the municipal water supply pipeline at more than a hundred places in her ward. Due to this, dirty water from the drain is reaching people's homes along with drinking water. Even after the complaint, the corporation administration is not being serious.

Former mayor Suresh Kumar has been continuously complaining about the supply of contaminated water in Brahmapura, Lakshmi Chowk, Daudpur Kothi and Bairiya areas. After his complaint, the corporation's engineers became active, but it took four months to find the leakage. Till then people were forced to use contaminated water. At the same time, the former councilor and former Deputy Mayor of Ward 11 also complained about the supply of dirty water in half a dozen localities of the ward. Even now the people of the locality are complaining about this.

Kumar Aditya, a resident of Padav Pokhar, said that in case of pipeline leakage, the Municipal Corporation's mechanics leave the bicycle wrapped in tube and cloth. Due to this, contaminated water is reaching people's homes. This water becomes the cause of disease. If consumed directly, it can also be fatal. The Water Works Branch of the Municipal Corporation receives two dozen complaints of pipeline leakage every day, but the Corporation is able to resolve more than a dozen complaints.

The complaint of dirty water reaching the corporation's pipeline due to leakage is being resolved immediately. As soon as the complaint is received, the leakage is being found and rectified. The corporation is working with full activeness. - Amit Kumar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner

After the incident in Indore, the Water Works Branch of the Municipal Corporation has been instructed to immediately process the leakage complaint. The Water Works Branch has been alerted. There is a problem due to the vacancy of the post of Municipal Commissioner. I will get the problem resolved by conducting a thorough investigation of the affected areas. -Nirmala Devi, Mayor
