Cyber thugs got money transferred by sending QR code.
Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. Thousands of rupees have been cheated from a person in the name of hotel booking. Sector-40 resident Parit Aggarwal said that he searched for information on the internet to book a hotel room in Salasar, Rajasthan.
When I called the contact number given on the website, a person identified himself as a representative of the hotel. He asked for booking through call and WhatsApp and sent a QR code.
The victim first sent Rs 1,500 through UPI. After this, the accused asked for Rs 75 more citing GST dues and assured that the amount sent earlier would be returned. Falling for the trap, Parit transferred another Rs 1,575.
After this, calls were made from different numbers and they were asked to make payment again in the name of completing the refund process. On the pretext of failure in payment, the accused got the amount transferred in several installments including Rs 3,000, Rs 1,711, Rs 1,851 and Rs 1,100.
In this way, a total of thousands of rupees were defrauded. Upon realizing the fraud, the victim lodged a complaint with the cyber cell and handed over details of all transactions to the police. Cyber police station has registered the case. The concerned bank accounts and UPI IDs are being investigated.
