Free Trade Agreement Will Reduce Uttar Pradesh's Dependence On America, These Industries Will Get The Most Benefits

State Bureau, Lucknow. The free trade agreement between India and the European Union will reduce Uttar Pradesh's dependence on America for exports. With this agreement, the products of Uttar Pradesh will have easy access to the big market of 27 countries belonging to the European Union.

This agreement will prove to be very effective especially in increasing the export of leather, footwear and One District One Product (ODOP). After its implementation, there will be no tax on raw materials imported from European countries, due to which the cost of manufacturing related products will reduce and products can be sold at lower prices in the market.

Products worth Rs 1.86 lakh crore were exported from Uttar Pradesh in the year 2024-25. Of this, maximum 19 percent was exported to America. After the US imposed 50 percent additional tariff on Indian products, the free trade agreement with the European Union has made it easier for Uttar Pradesh's products to access the markets of 27 countries.

Products worth Rs 53,000 crore were exported from Uttar Pradesh to European Union countries in the year 2024-25. Of this, Rs 42,400 crore was exported to Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands, while Rs 10,600 crore was exported to other 21 countries of the European Union.

After the free trade agreement, the big market of other countries associated with the European Union including Denmark, Poland, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Norway, Romania, Portugal, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Finland and Sweden will become an opportunity for Uttar Pradesh.

According to Puran Dabur, regional president of Footwear and Leather Industry Development Council, this agreement will greatly benefit labor-based industries including ODOP, carpet and leather.

Agreement will prove to be a boon for leather and shoe industry

Asad Kamal Iraqi, regional chairman of the Council for Leather Export, says that the free trade agreement will prove to be a boon for the leather and shoe export industry. The chemicals used in leather industry are imported from European countries.

After the agreement, there will be no duty on chemical imports. This will reduce the cost of leather and shoe manufacturing. Shoe exporters of Uttar Pradesh export shoes to the European market for 15 to 20 dollars. Traders from European countries will also benefit from this agreement and shoe manufacturers there will get their products manufactured from Uttar Pradesh due to lower manufacturing costs.
