Jagran correspondent, Mau. Ghosi Sugar Mill is moving towards the target. Till now 10.42 lakh quintals of sugarcane has been crushed. If the seven purchasing centers related to Sathiyanv were completed then the target would have become easier.
But only three purchasing centers were able to get it back. Till now the sugar mill has produced 68 thousand 855 quintals of sugar by crushing and bringing the recovery rate to 08. By keeping this sugar as mortgage, the mill pays the sugarcane price to the farmers.
The crushing target of Ghosi Sugar Mill has been set at 18 lakh quintals. Its crushing session is also going on. On December 23, 2024, Maltari, Hydera Elder, Bhuvana Elder and Latghat centers of Ghosi Mill were allotted to Sathianv.
Exactly one month after this, on January 23, 2025, on the request of the Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Sugar Mills Association Limited, an order was passed and with immediate effect, Araji Karkhia Devara, Devara Khas Raja and Khojauli centers of Sugar Mill Ghosi were also allotted to Sugar Mill Sathianv.
The result was that against the target of crushing 22 lakh quintals, a little more than 13 lakh quintals of sugarcane could be crushed. Keeping this situation in view, the sugar mill set a target of crushing 18 lakh quintals of sugarcane in this session.
On the other hand, the icing on the cake was that due to the efforts of Cabinet Minister AK Sharma, after the beginning of the crushing season, in the last week of December 2025, the sugar mill transferred to Sathianv got back Latghat, Khojauli and Karkhia Deora.
The result is that the sugar mill has so far crushed 10.42 lakh quintals of sugarcane. By bringing the recovery rate to 08, the sugar mill has so far produced 68 thousand 855 quintals of sugar. By keeping this sugar as mortgage, the mill pays the sugarcane price to the farmers.
Now the problem is why all the seven centers were not found back. If all the centers were back, the sugar mill would have crushed more sugarcane than the crushing target. This would reduce the operating costs of the mill.
Farmers returning to sugarcane farming
This year the sugarcane price has been increased by Rs 30 per quintal. Along with this, by running an intensive sugarcane development campaign under the joint aegis of the sugar mill, sugarcane committee and sugarcane department, farmers in the villages near the mill gate area were motivated to cultivate sugarcane.
Under the campaign, villages were allotted to each observer. Farmers were allotted sugarcane seeds of improved disease resistant variety which gives higher production. The result is that this year the sugarcane area has increased by 534 hectares.
Sathiyaanv Mill is not of today. Established in the seventies. Our area has been associated with Ghosi Mill established in 1982. In such a situation, suddenly changing the mill is playing with the sentiments of the farmers.-Virendra Singh, Vishen Ka Pura, Sagdi
Complete details of farmers of Devara area of Azamgarh are in Kisan Samiti Ghosi and Sugar Mill Ghosi. It is unfair to change the center suddenly. All seven centers were returned to Ghosi. There was also a demonstration for this last year.-Shivchand Yadav, Devara Ismailpur
If the purchasing centers of Ghosi Sugar Mill are affiliated with any other mill, it will get less sugarcane. Due to this, operating costs will increase. The mill will go into loss. Ultimately, one day closing the mill will be the last option.-Rajman Yadav, Ajgara, Raunapar
It is easy for the farmers associated with Sathianv Mill to bring sugarcane to Ghosi Sugar Mill. Despite this, no survey was conducted nor talks were held with the farmers. The officials of the department sitting in Lucknow have given proof of their Hitlership by handing over seven sugarcane purchasing centers of Ghosi to Sathiyanv. -Karunesh Pratap Rai, Director, Sugar Mill Ghosi.
Every effort is being made to meet the crushing target. The mill will run till the first week of March. Due to this, crushing of more than 16 lakh quintals of sugarcane is scheduled. Every possible effort is being made to attract sugarcane farmers.-Mahendra Prasad, Principal Manager, Sugar Mill Ghosi
