New Delhi. Air travel has become expensive since the Indigo crisis. To travel from one corner of the country to another, one has to pay several times the fare. At the same time, fares on foreign routes have also started touching the sky. Despite fare limits, prices on international routes are rising due to reduced capacity.
On December 6, the Government of India fixed the air fare for air travel up to 500 km at Rs 7,500 and at Rs 18,000 for air travel beyond 1,500 km. Flight fares for long distance routes like Pune-Guwahati range between Rs 18,000 to Rs 31,000, while for Pune to Kochi it is around Rs 32,000. On December 11, fares on the Delhi-Bengaluru route were between Rs 18,000 and Rs 28,000.

Because due to the Indigo crisis, fares not only on domestic routes but also on foreign routes have become not only two but three-three times more expensive. A one-way journey from Delhi to Dubai will now cost around Rs 55,000. According to data from online travel firm SNVA Traveltech (Travelomint), before the recent flight disruptions, airfares on this route were between Rs 18,000 - 22,000. That means this fare has almost tripled from before.
Round trip air fare to Maldives Rs 1 lakh
A round trip fare from Delhi to Male is now around Rs 1 lakh, whereas earlier it was Rs 40,000 - 45,000. That is, if you want to go to Male, Maldives, then you will have to spend around Rs 1 lakh only on air fare.
Going to Canada also became expensive
Fares have also increased on other international routes, including Delhi-Mauritius, and now a round trip fare is up to Rs 74,000, whereas earlier it was Rs 40,000 - 45,000. The fare for a one-way trip from Delhi to Toronto, Canada is up to Rs 1.4 lakh, whereas earlier it was Rs 1-1.25 lakh.
The fare from Mumbai to Dammam, Saudi Arabia is around Rs 36,000, whereas earlier it was Rs 18,000 - 22,000 (one way). Fares on the Delhi-Hong Kong route are around Rs 50,000, whereas earlier it was Rs 40,000 to Rs 45,000.
Alok K Singh, Chairman and CEO, SNVA Traveltech, said that despite the cap on air fares, the increase in international air fares is currently causing problems in flights and less availability of seats.
