Digital Desk, New Delhi. Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, while replying to a written question in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, said that the Central Government is aware of the incident of water pollution in Bhagirathpura, Indore.
Also, the government is providing assistance to the states through schemes like AMRUT and AMRUT 2.0.
Many people have died
Let it be known that since the end of December, many people have lost their lives due to diarrhea and vomiting in this area. The minister clarified that the pipelines in the affected area are as old as 1997. “Some pipelines have been damaged, so the city administration has identified old pipelines and included them under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme,” he said.
Indore Municipal Corporation has issued four package tenders for the city's water supply. Work on Package-1 has started, while the remaining three packages are in the final stages of approval. The project includes everything from water source development to modern distribution system and long-term maintenance.
Sahu said since water is a 'state subject', the central government is providing financial and technical assistance. Under Amrit Yojana, drinking water schemes worth Rs 541 crore and sewerage schemes worth Rs 278 crore were implemented for Indore. Under AMRUT 2.0, two new water supply schemes worth Rs 1,142 crore have been approved. (With inputs from news agency PTI)
