File photo of deceased Khushboo left. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. Khushboo's body remained buried under the ground for four days. The accused continued to lead a normal life. Questions kept being raised when the daughter-in-law was not seen at home, but every time husband Arjun used to avoid the matter by saying that after the dispute, Khushboo had left the house.
Two days ago, he went to his in-laws' house in search of his wife and told that Khushboo had left the house with Rs 3000 and a mobile phone. With the help of this lie he kept trying to show himself innocent.
After the murder, Arjun kept trying to appear completely normal. Apart from mother, whenever father Shyam Narayan asked about Khushboo, he would cite the dispute and say that she had gone away somewhere in anger. This answer was troubling the village women and neighbors from the very beginning.
The sudden disappearance of the daughter-in-law, no contact with anyone and recently dug up soil behind the house created fear of something untoward in the minds of the people. Gradually discussions intensified in the village. People started whispering amongst themselves that this was not normal. Many villagers clearly told Shyam Narayan that it is necessary to inform the police.
Amidst the pressure of the villagers and the questions arising in his own mind, Shyam Narayan finally reached Belghat police station and informed the police about the entire incident. After this, he also informed his maternal side. As soon as the police reached the village on Thursday, the atmosphere completely changed.
When Arjun started being strictly interrogated, he got nervous and started changing his statement again and again. When the police decided to dig behind the house, his uneasiness became clearly visible. As soon as the body buried about six feet deep came out, there was silence in the entire village. A huge crowd gathered around the house and every face was full of terror and surprise.
According to the police, on Sunday night Arjun asked Khushboo for a mobile phone. The dispute escalated when she refused. Khushboo deleted the WhatsApp message from a number. As soon as the message was deleted, Arjun's suspicions deepened. During interrogation, the altercation between the two intensified and in anger Arjun strangulated Khushboo, resulting in her death within a short time.
