Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. Senior IAS officer Anu Garg has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Odisha. She will take charge of the top administrative post of the state from the new year. With this, she has become the first woman IAS officer to be appointed Chief Secretary of Odisha.

1991 batch IAS officer Anu Garg will replace the current Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, whose tenure is ending on December 31. A notification in this regard has been issued by the General Administration Department.

Presently Anu Garg is working as Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary. With her appointment, she will become the first woman Chief Secretary of Odisha. It is believed that the government led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has given a clear message of promoting women leadership through this appointment.

Anu Garg is a 1991 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre. She was born on 1 March 1969 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He holds an MA in Sociology from Lucknow University and a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA.

In her long administrative career, Anu Garg has held many important positions both at the Central and State levels. She has served as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In the year 1993, she started her administrative service as Sub-District Magistrate in Jharsuguda.

After this he worked as Sub-District Magistrate in Kalahandi and Additional District Magistrate, District Magistrate of Bargarh and Sambalpur. She has also been the Deputy Residential Commissioner of Odisha in Delhi.

He also held important responsibilities as ICDS Director from 2000 to 2002, State Health Director from 2002 to 2003 and Central Health Director in 2005. Apart from this, she has also done effective work as the Secretary of Women and Child Development Department.

It is noteworthy that Anu Garg's husband Saurabh Garg is currently working on deputation in the Central Government. Given her extensive experience in the social and health sector, administrative efficiency and leadership ability, she was considered a strong contender for the post of Chief Secretary for a long time. His appointment is being considered an important and historic step for the state administration.
