Digital Desk, New Delhi. The Government of India told Parliament that till January 28, movable and immovable enemy properties worth Rs 2,930 crore have been sold. Enemy property is said to be those properties which were left in the country by the people who took citizenship of Pakistan and China, mainly between the years 1947 to 1962.
Minister of State for Home Bundi Sanjay Kumar said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the disposal and monetization of enemy properties is done as per the Enemy Property Act, 1968 and the rules and guidelines made thereunder.
How many properties were sold?
"Movable and immovable enemy properties worth Rs 2,930 crore have been sold till 28.01.2026," he said. Kumar said the government has taken several steps to speed up monetization of enemy properties, including appointing district magistrates to act as ex-officio sub-inspectors of such properties.
SDMs have been asked to act as ex-officio assistant monitors, Tehsildars as ex-officio inspectors and Deputy Secretaries posted in the regional offices of the Bureau of Enemy Property in India (CEPI) as ex-officio sub-inspectors.
To attract bidders in auctions of enemy property, the pre-bid rate has been reduced from 10 per cent to 5 per cent and the period for payment of the sale price has been increased from 21 days to 120 days.
What will the settlement process be like?
On the process of disposal, the minister said the valuation is done by a committee headed by the District Magistrate at the location of the property and comprising empaneled valuers for enemy properties valued at more than Rs 1 crore.
He said that the assessment report is placed before the Enemy Property Disposal Committee, which gives its recommendations to the Central Government regarding disposal of enemy properties.
