Internet will remain closed in Malkangiri for now

Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. After the recent violent incident in Malkangiri district, the situation is gradually becoming normal and the situation is continuously improving.

Officials said that although the situation is better, as a precautionary measure the ban on internet services in the district has been extended till 12 noon on Monday.

The district administration has decided to continue the internet shutdown till 12 noon on Monday with the aim of preventing the spread of rumors and maintaining law and order.

Malkangiri District Magistrate said that despite the improvement in the overall situation, this ban will remain in effect till then. Meanwhile, after reviewing the ground situation, prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code (BNS) have been lifted from Saturday.

Loss of Rs 3.80 crore in violence

According to the district administration, a preliminary assessment of the total loss caused during the violence has been put at around Rs 3.80 crore. All essential services including power supply and drinking water have been fully restored in the affected areas.

The District Magistrate also informed that so far six people have been arrested in connection with the incidents of violence. Security arrangements are still in place and the administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure lasting peace and normalcy.

Water and electricity supplies fully restored

Meanwhile, water and electricity supply has been fully restored and most of the residents who had temporarily left the village have returned to their homes. The situation on the ground is continuously improving and peace is gradually returning to the region.

Police forces are deployed and regular flag marches are conducted to restore confidence among the local people and ensure security. The administration is also providing cooked food and dry ration to the affected families. Officials have assured that the schools closed as a precautionary measure will be reopened soon.
