Jamuari River Will Be Renovated, There Will Be Connectivity With Budhi Gandak; 2 Lane Bridge Will Be Built At 33 Places

Babul Deep, Muzaffarpur. After the Bagmati-Budhi Gandak river linking project, now the dead Jamuari river flowing through Sakra block will be revived. It will be renovated. With this, it will be connected to Budhi Gandak. This will benefit thousands of farmers by rejuvenating the river. Its exercise has been started.

During Pragati Yatra, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced cleaning of silt from Jamuari river. Now Flood Control Division Dalsinghsarai has started the work of its renovation. However, this plan is still in the initial phase. The Executive Engineer of Flood Control Division has sent a letter to Sakra CO informing about this.

It was told that the silt accumulated in the bottom of Jamuari river has to be cleaned from Dholi Sluice near Harsingpur village to 54 km Samastipur district. Besides, two-lane bridges will be built at 33 places on the route of this river. This will require land acquisition. The Executive Engineer has sent complete details related to the land acquisition plan from Sakra CO.

Told that land acquisition is to be done in different parts of Jamuari river. Complete details regarding this have been handed over to the Circle Officer. He has asked to provide attested copy of Maujawar Khatian and government land so that the further process can be done quickly. This information has been sent to DM and District Land Acquisition Officer.

Ground water level will also improve

It was told that Jamuari river flows through Sakra, Pusa, Tajpur, Morwa and Sarairanjan blocks. Finally it merges into Noon and Balan rivers. Rejuvenation of the river will improve irrigation and ground water level in Sakra and surrounding villages. This will also provide relief from the problem of drinking water during summer. As soon as the summer season arrives in Sakra, the ground water level goes down very low. This will also solve the problem of drinking water.

The river has been dry for more than two decades

According to the local people, Jamuari river was once a boon for the farmers of Sakra and surrounding areas. Irrigation of fields was done from this river. At that time it had connectivity with Budhi Gandak. Gradually, water hyacinth started growing in the river and silt started accumulating in the river. This river dried up about two decades ago. Its connectivity with Budhi Gandak was also lost and now it is yearning for every drop.

Work going on on Bagmati-Budhi Gandak river linking project

The Bagmati-Budhi Gandak River Linking Project is a major water management project of the state. Its objective is to divert excess water of Bagmati River from Belwa Ghat of Sheohar to Budhi Gandak near Muzaffarpur through a link channel (Belwa-Meenapur). This will help in flood control, improvement in irrigation and boost to rural economy. This is the first river interlinking project of the state which will benefit the flood affected Shivhar, Sitamarhi, East Champaran and Muzaffarpur districts of North Bihar. About 68.80 km long channel is being built from Belwa Ghat in Sheohar district to near Meenapur.
