Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Under the Amrit 2.0 project in the capital Delhi, many lakes of Delhi have got a new life, but right now some lakes are wet on paper but dry at the ground level. 18 out of 21 projects of MCD have been completed but the work on Naini Lake has not been started, whereas the work on Welcome Lake and Aya Nagar Lake has not been completed yet.
Apart from this, Bhalswa lake which comes under DDA is still waiting for salvation. This lake is a victim of encroachment as well as filth. Where mud can be clearly seen inside the lake. However, recently, restoration work of Sanjay Lake is going on in East Delhi. Water has come here. Because of this, this area has now become a picnic spot for everyone from citizens to birds.
These lakes are to be renovated to conserve rain water and build ground water level in Delhi. Delhi Government, Municipal Corporation and Delhi Development Authority have to improve the condition of the lakes. Under this, the corporation had received Rs 47 crore from the Central Government under AMRUT 2.0.
In this, work on 18 out of 21 projects has been completed. MCD has given a new look to the dry lake of Roshanara Park. Where footpaths have been built around the lake and swings have also been installed. MCD plans to start restaurants and boating here. MCD is making efforts for this.
Delay due to formation of standing committee for Naini Lake
Naini Lake located in Model Town is to be beautified under the Amrit 2.0 project. This involves cleaning the lake and supplying water from STP. Earlier, boating was done here, that too is to be started here. Due to the delay in the formation of the standing committee last year, this project, which is going on from 2022, has not been completed yet.
For this, the corporation had received an amount of Rs 10 crore from the Central Government but since last year this project could not be passed due to the formation of the Standing Committee. Now that a permanent committee has been formed, the project is being prepared afresh and work will be started after taking its approval.
Aya Nagar lake is being cleaned, work will be done in two months
MCD had beautified the lake in Aya Nagar but due to local people dumping cow dung in it, it got silted up. At the same time, people also started dumping garbage. Because of this the water of this lake had become quite dirty. After this the work of cleaning it has been started.
The silt has been removed. But still people are dumping cow dung nearby. To start the lake, work is underway to lay a pipeline to deliver water from the STP. According to local councilor Sheetal Chaudhary, the work will be completed in the next two months.
STP of Welcome Lake is closed due to lack of water.
MCD had completed the work of Welcome Lake project but its STP has not been started yet. The main reason for this is that the water supplied to the STP has been diverted by the Jal Board to some other project.
The work of the lake was completed about one and a half years ago. The STP was also started and water was filled but due to diversion of drain water supplied to the STP, the STP is closed. Because of this the lake is dry.
