Maruti Baleno becomes India's number 1 car in December 2025.
Auto Desk, New Delhi. India's passenger vehicle market is set to see excellent sales in December 2025. All three segments – hatchback, sedan and SUV – witnessed good demand, which was clearly reflected in the annual growth of top-selling models. Total sales of top 10 cars stood at 1,80,758 units in December 2025, which is a huge increase of 30.65 percent as compared to 1,38,357 units in December 2024. Factors like the impact of festival demand, year-end offers and better supply were the reasons behind this surge.
Who was ahead in sales?
In December 2025, Maruti Baleno emerged as the country's best-selling car. It recorded sales of 22,108 units, which is a huge jump of 142.6 percent on an annual basis. Just behind it was Maruti Fronx, which sold 20,706 units. This figure is almost double compared to last year.
The third position was taken by Tata Nexon (ICE + EV) with 19,375 units and a strong growth of 43 percent. This shows that there is a continuous demand for petrol-diesel as well as electric options in the compact SUV segment.
After this, sales of Maruti Dzire and Maruti Swift were 19,072 and 18,767 units respectively. With this she was included in the top 10. Both delivered double-digit growth.
Brezza and Ertiga maintained steady volumes. The presence of Punch (ICE + EV) and Scorpio (Classic + N) in the top 10 indicates that the demand for compact and mid-size SUVs remains strong. Wagon-R was the only model in this list, which registered a decline on an annual basis.
Dominance of SUV segment
SUVs continue to dominate buyer preferences in December 2025. Total sales of top 15 SUVs stood at 1,79,357 units, which is an impressive growth of 35.04 percent as compared to December 2024.
In the SUV chart, Maruti Suzuki Fronx led the way with 20,706 units, while Nexon (ICE + EV) came a close second with 19,375 units.
