Auto Desk, New Delhi. Volvo has introduced its new electric SUV EX60 for the European market. It is the first car built on Volvo's new EV-dedicated SPA3 platform. The brand's entry into the luxury electric midsize SUV segment is also being considered. The special thing is that EX60 is the electric option of ICE (petrol/diesel) Volvo XC60. Volvo EX60 battery and range
The company has introduced Volvo EX60 in three battery pack options keeping in mind different needs. This battery pack is 83kWh, 95kWh and 117kWh. It has been claimed by the company that this SUV will give a range of up to 810km in the top model.
The design of the Volvo EX60 largely reflects the company's new EV design approach and from the front it also looks similar to the larger EX30. At the front, it has a split headlamp setup, Thor Hummer LED DRL signature, LED headlamps on both sides of the bumper, closed-off grille finish and a black scuff plate at the bottom.
Its side profile has been kept smooth and clean. It has subtle character lines on the wheel arches and doors and black cladding below the doors. The traditional door handle has been replaced with an illuminated wing grip handle (mounted on the window line).
Furthermore, wheel sizes range from 20-inch to 22-inch. The rear wheels have been kept slightly wider for better traction. At the rear, it has slim LED tail-lights, black strip above the tailgate, thick black cladding and thin silver strip on the rear bumper.
EX60 will get two exterior themes
Volvo has introduced EX60 in two themes, which are bright and dark theme. In its bright theme, silver accents have been given on the door sills and bumpers. At the same time, black finish has been given on the exterior in dark theme. Both these themes have been given keeping in mind the users who like different styles.
Higher ground clearance and off-road mode
A special version of Volvo EX60 Cross Country has been introduced, in which the SUV has been given a more rugged character. It gets 20mm more ground clearance, stainless steel skid plates, matte black cladding, exclusive frost green colour, unique interior themes and materials, Cross Country branding on D-pillar and bumpers, adaptive air suspension with off-road mode. This variant may be more practical for those who want light off-roading along the highway or better capability on rough terrain.
The cabin of the Volvo EX60 comes with a dual-tone and layered dashboard design. It has a two-spoke steering wheel, physical buttons, toggle switch for volume control, steering column-mounted drive select stock, large central glove box, good storage space in the front center console and different color and upholstery options for the seats.
The company has introduced Volvo EX60 in three trims, which differ according to battery and motor setup.
1. P6 Electric (Base Trim): It has a rear-mounted motor with 83kWh battery. This motor generates power of 374 hp and torque of 480 Nm. Its range (WLTP) is up to 620 km.
2. P10 AWD (Mid Trim): It has dual motor (front + rear) with 95kWh battery. This motor generates power of 510 hp and torque of 710 Nm. Its range (WLTP) is up to 660 km.
3. P12 AWD (Top Trim): It gets dual motor setup with 117kWh battery. This motor generates power of 680 hp and torque of 790 Nm. Its range (WLTP) is up to 810km.
It has been claimed by the company that the batteries of these three get charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. When charged with a 400kW DC fast charger, the battery gets charged from 10 to 80 percent in less than 20 minutes. It has AC charging support up to 22kW.
Volvo EX60 is expected to compete with luxury electric SUVs like BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC EV. The company has not yet confirmed whether the EX60 will come to India or not, although it has been told that the EX90 and ES90 EVs are expected to be launched in India.
