Digital Desk, New Delhi. The plight of minorities in the Islamic country of Pakistan can be gauged from the fact that there is no one to stop the atrocities on non-Muslim minor girls, but even in the courts where the victimized minorities go in the hope of getting justice, there is grave injustice done to them.
The latest example of this is this minor Christian girl. A federal court in Pakistan has handed over a 13-year-old Christian girl to the Muslim kidnapper who married her after forcibly converting her. A Muslim man forcibly converted minor Maria Shahbaz to Islam and married her.
The judges did not accept the birth certificate presented by Maria Shahbaz's parents, which proved her age. Safdar Chaudhary, president of the rights group Rah-e-Nizat Ministry, said the judges also rejected earlier judicial findings that the marriage was illegal.
Parents upset with the decision
Now the parents of the 13-year-old girl are upset with the court's decision. The girl's father Shahbaz Masih, a driver by profession, said that his neighbor kidnapped Maria Shahbaz on July 29 last year when she was going to a nearby shop. Since then his family has been repeatedly seeking judicial intervention to find him.
Minorities become victims every year
Every year in Pakistan, around a thousand religious minority girls (mainly Hindus and Christians) face kidnapping, rape, forced marriage with their abductors, conversion to Islam and various other forms of ill-treatment.'' (With inputs from news agency INS)
