Jagran correspondent, Lucknow. Due to increase in black marketing in the market, retail prices of cigarettes and gutka have increased. Cigarettes costing six rupees are being sold for eight rupees. The big size cigarette which used to cost Rs 18 is being sold in paan shops for Rs 24.
At the same time, the prices of gutka have increased by one to two rupees per piece. No company has made this increase. Prices have increased due to less arrival of goods in the market. Because those doing retail business are getting gutka and cigarettes at expensive prices. Cigarette companies will stop supplying goods to wholesalers from February 1.
According to Naveen, Vice President of Lucknow Trade Board, companies can start supplying goods in the market from February 6. According to him, people who consume cigarettes and gutka in the market are buying them at higher prices than before. The new prices are also going to be around this price. Overall, black marketing is considered to be the main reason behind the increase in the prices of cigarettes and gutka. According to Naveen, cigarettes are being sold at a higher price in retail shops for about twenty days. There has been no increase in wholesale prices. A cigarette which used to cost Rs 5.85 is being sold even today at the same price.
