Renovation of Mumbai Mayor's bungalow begins, after four years the official residence will be ready for the new Mayor

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started the renovation of the Mayor's Bungalow located at Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden and Zoo (Rani Bagh) in Byculla. This bungalow, which was closed and unused for almost four years, is being renovated to welcome the new Mumbai Mayor.
The bungalow was lying vacant since March 2022, when it was vacated after the tenure of former mayor Kishori Pednekar of Shiv Sena (UBT). Earlier, till 2017, Kishori Pednekar had used it as an official residence.
The old mayor's bungalow was located on the seashore in Shivaji Park, Dadar, which was vacated in 2018 and used for the memorial of Balasaheb Thackeray. Since then this bungalow in Byculla became the official residence of the Mayor.
Delay due to code of conduct, now work on priority
BMC could not issue tenders due to the implementation of the code of conduct with the announcement of elections on 15 December 2025. Now after the completion of the election process, the work has been started on priority basis. The cost will be assessed later.

This renovation focuses on making the bungalow modern and comfortable while also preserving its historical heritage. It will be put into use again after the swearing-in of the new Mayor, providing a safe and convenient official residence to the Mayor of Mumbai.
