In view of the month of Ramzan, the Mosque Committee has sent a letter to the Superintendent Archaeologist of ASI Meerut Circle demanding permission to be given soon.
On Wednesday, Sadar Zafar Ali of Jama Masjid Committee, in a letter sent to the Superintendent Archaeologist of ASI Meerut, said that last year during Ramzan, the painting of the mosque was done under the supervision of ASI, but due to rain and dust, the color of the walls has now faded. The grandeur and attractiveness of the mosque is being affected.
In such a situation, it is necessary to get the painting done before Ramzan, because during this time a large number of devotees come for worship. It is known that Jama Masjid is ASI protected. A case has been filed in the court on behalf of the Hindu side claiming that there is a Harihar temple here. On 24 November 2024, the Advocate Commissioner's team had arrived for the survey, where violence broke out during the protest.
Four people were killed and more than 25 police and administrative officials were injured in the incident. A case was registered against 3750 unknown people while naming 37 people in seven FIRs. Sadar Zafar Ali of Jama Masjid also went to jail. Administrative vigilance was increased after the incident. The matter is currently pending in the court, making permission mandatory before any work.
Last year also permission was sought before Ramzan
Even on 23 February 2025, Sadar Zafar Ali had given a letter to ASI asking for permission for painting. When the department did not grant permission, the mosque committee had approached the High Court. On March 12, 2025, the High Court had given permission for painting and decoration under the supervision of ASI. After this, the work started from 16 March 2025. However, before the violence the committee had never sought permission from the ASI for painting.
