Dwijapriya Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat Katha (SankAshti Chaturthi 2026 Katha)
Once a great crisis befell the gods. Troubled by the demons, all the gods went to Lord Shiva and requested for their protection. Mahadev called his two sons, Kartikeya and Ganesha and asked who among you two could end the sufferings of the gods? Both the brothers described themselves as capable. Then Mahadev put a test and said - 'The one who will return first after circling the earth will become the commander of the gods and will be called Vighnaharta.' Kartikeya rode on his vehicle peacock and set out to circumnavigate the earth. But Ganesh ji's vehicle was Mushak (rat), which made it difficult to revolve around the earth. Then Ganesh ji used his sharp intelligence. He got up and circled around his parents seven times and stood with folded hands. When Mahadev asked the reason for this, Lord Ganesha replied - 'The entire universe and the earth reside at the feet of the parents. Circulating them is like circling the Earth. Seeing his cleverness and devotion, Lord Shiva was very happy and blessed him to be the destroyer of obstacles.
According to another story, when Lord Vishnu was getting married to Lakshmi ji, all the gods were invited but Ganesh ji was not invited. When Bappa came to know of this, he sent his army of rats to dig a path, due to which the wheels of the chariot of the gods got stuck. At last the gods realized their mistake and praised Lord Ganesha. The marriage was completed smoothly only with the blessings of Lord Ganesha.
