Speakers giving information about avoiding misuse of antibiotics during the program. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, Ghaziabad. An awareness program was organized at JMSIT College Ghaziabad on Friday under the joint campaign Prahar on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) of Dainik Jagran and Indian Medical Association (IMA).
In the program Dr. Naveen Singh made students and teachers aware about the dangers of misuse of antibiotics and the ill effects of AMR. During the program Dr. Naveen also answered students' questions based on various health problems including the correct use of antibiotics.
Dr. Naveen Singh started the program by giving complete information about where and how antibiotics were introduced and their use. Along with the awareness programme, he also asked questions to the students and the students also answered his questions boldly.
Dr. Naveen Singh said that the same health problem can cause infection by different types of bacteria in different seasons. To cure the infection, different antibiotics are prescribed by the doctor. In every season and every month, it is possible that a different form of bacteria is infecting the patient.
Practicing doctors prescribe medicines considering the weather and health problems, but many times people keep using medicines from the doctor's old prescription for a health problem. Whereas it is not necessary that the antibiotic medicine written on the old prescription is meant to cure that bacterial infection.
In such a situation, the risk of bacterial resistance increases. It is important for everyone to use antibiotics only on the advice of a doctor and for the period prescribed. Buying medicine from a medical store on an old prescription can prove dangerous. Many times people take antibiotics from medical stores without consultation, this is very wrong.
Wrong use of antibiotics can be life threatening. Apart from this, he said that if you get admitted to the hospital due to infection with any bacteria, then you should remain admitted only for the number of days suggested by the doctor.
After that, do not think that by staying admitted for two-four more days, you will reduce further risks. In such a situation, various bacteria already present in the hospital can cause harm. Apart from this, he answered the questions asked by the students regarding cancer, sinus and use of antibiotics.
