Election officials were given training regarding civic elections.
State Bureau, Ranchi. The State Election Commission has expected the Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) to conduct completely clean, fair and peaceful civic elections in the state.
State Election Commissioner Alka Tiwari said that both the officials will play the most important role in the municipal elections. To ensure that there is no disturbance and dispute during the elections, it is necessary to strictly follow the rules and guidelines of the Commission related to civic elections.
He gave many instructions to both the officials during the training-cum-meeting at the Commission office located on Ratu Road, Ranchi on Friday. Commission Secretary Radheshyam Prasad and other officials of the Commission were present on the occasion.
Officials informed about their responsibilities during elections
In the meeting, the officials were made aware of their responsibilities during the elections. He said that not only is there a need to understand the nuances of civic elections, but complete vigilance is necessary during the nomination process, voting and counting of votes.
This time the elections are to be held through ballot paper, hence utmost care is required during counting of votes. He said that all administrative preparations should be made to conduct the elections in a peaceful and fair manner.
With the training-cum-meeting of the election officials, the State Election Commission's preparations for the civic elections have been completed. According to the Secretary of the Commission, now if necessary, meetings can be held with officials through video conferencing.
Officials should study the election booklet thoroughly
He asked the electors and assistant electoral officials to study the election booklet issued by the Commission thoroughly, because the civic elections have to be conducted accordingly.
Many a times disputes arise due to small issues, hence the above booklet will be very helpful in conducting elections as per rules.
Strict compliance of model code of conduct
The State Election Commissioner told the officials that the Model Code of Conduct will come into force as soon as the notification for the civic elections is issued. Electoral and assistant electoral officials will also play an important role in strictly implementing this.
He advised the officers not to do anything that could bring them into controversy. The officials were also informed about the reports sent to the Commission every day during the elections.
Immediate action should be taken on the complaints of the candidates.
