The statue of Edwin Lutyens was removed from Rashtrapati Bhavan and the statue of C. Rajagopalachari, the first Governor General of independent India, was installed. It was unveiled by President Draupadi Murmu and the Vice President. Lutyens' great-grandson Matt Ridley expressed sadness at the statue's removal, saying Lutyens was an architect, not a Viceroy. The government has announced 'Rajaji Utsav', for which Rajagopalachari's great grandson expressed his gratitude.
