Ambala's fast track court has sentenced 61-year-old Gurdeep alias Pappu to five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 in the case of obscenity with a 10-year-old girl. The convict was doing paint work in the victim's house when he sexually assaulted the girl. The police had registered a case under the POCSO Act. The court had recently declared him guilty.

North Eastern Railway has started halting of two express trains, Gondia-Barauni and Chhapra-Farrukhabad Utsarg Express, at Phephna station. IPS Mukesh Singh has taken over as the new DGP of Ladakh Police. He is a 1996 batch officer of AGMUT cadre and is a graduate in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi. Singh has served in several sensitive positions in Jammu and Kashmir, including in terrorism-affected areas, and was also instrumental in setting up the NIA.
