A record 76 votes were cast for the Uttarakhand Bar Council elections in Dehradun on Tuesday. Out of 5007 members, 3818 advocates exercised their franchise. The fate of 104 candidates was sealed in the ballot boxes, the counting of which will begin from February 20. Voting was peaceful and orderly, with lawyers showing great enthusiasm.
19.04 hectares of forest land of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve was freed from decades of encroachment. On the orders of the Supreme Court, a joint team of police and forest department used bulldozers to remove illegal crops and took back possession of the land. This land was transferred to PTR from Khutar range of Shahjahanpur. Now the natural habitat of wildlife will be restored by planting trees on it.
In Puranpur, an old woman Kamaljit Kaur was murdered by her brother-in-law's son Sarvjit Singh alias Billu and a laborer Vijay Kumar Kamboj due to greed for property. The police have arrested both of them. The nephew had hatched this dreadful conspiracy due to the fear that the old lady's adopted daughter would get the property. The post mortem report confirmed death by strangulation.
Chandausi Court has sentenced Farman, the husband found guilty of dowry death, to 13 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. This incident took place in Sambhal in 2020, where Farman and his aunt Firdaus strangled Mehak to death with a dupatta. Firdaus has already been sentenced to 10 years. The husband's lie was caught through the call details, due to which the whole matter was overturned.
After the murder of gangster Vikram Sharma in Dehradun, questions have been raised on the permission for his stone crusher based in Bazpur. This permission was given in 2013 to the company of Vikram's brother Arvind Sharma, which is run by Vikram's wife Sonia Sharma. Vikram came to Uttarakhand after the gang war in Jharkhand. The police is investigating the murder and there is suspicion of a conspiracy being hatched from the jail, for which raids are also being conducted in Jamshedpur.
Maulana Mahmood Madani has expressed disappointment over the Supreme Court's direction to the petitioners to approach the High Court in the hate speech case against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He described it as extremely disappointing for justice-loving people. Madani said that under Article 32 of the Constitution, citizens have the right to directly approach the Supreme Court and strict action is expected in such cases. Jamiat will now approach the High Court.

Two minor girls, fictitious names Reema and Richa, went missing on 12 February 2026 from Home House Children's Home in Saraidhela, Dhanbad. The institute management said that she left the campus without informing at around 6:27 pm. He is under 16 years of age. Saraidhela police and Child Welfare Committee have been informed, and police are searching for them in Dhanbad and Asansol areas.
Rajgangpur Police has taken major action against organized cyber crime. Two accused, Abdul Qadir and Mohd., have been arrested in connection with illegal transactions of Rs 4.19 crore through Mule Bank accounts. Sufiyan Raza, has been arrested. These accused used to work for commission on the instructions of cyber thugs. The police are now investigating this money trail in depth and the search for other accused is on. The public has been appealed to be cautious about cyber fraud.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron described India-France relations as a 'Special Global Strategic Partnership'. The two countries signed 20 agreements including manufacturing of H-125 helicopters that fly to the heights of Mount Everest and Hammer missile production in India. This collaboration will help in making India a global hub of high technology manufacturing and monitoring the Himalayan region, with an investment of Rs 1000 crore.
