The court of Dehradun Judicial Magistrate Bhavana Pandey has convicted Junaid Hasan in the check bounce case. He has been sentenced to one year simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 11 lakh. Junaid had given a check of Rs 9 lakh to Rajeev Sharma, which bounced. Out of the fine amount, the complainant will get Rs 10.95 lakh.

Illegal mining in the name of CO residence has been busted in Chandausi area of Sambhal. SDM and Naib Tehsildar raided Mohammadpur Kasba village of Narauli and seized a dumper and tractor-trolley. Mining permission was taken to fill the soil for the CO's under-construction house, but illegal mining was being done elsewhere. The seized vehicles have been handed over to the police and action is being taken to cancel the permission by informing the Mining Inspector.

There was an encounter between police and miscreants in Garhmukteshwar. Police stopped the suspects during checking on Meerut Road. The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear the important issue of whether the Enforcement Directorate can file a writ petition in the High Court as a judicial entity under Article 226. The decision came on appeals by the governments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, which had challenged the Kerala High Court order which had confirmed the ED's jurisdiction to file writ petitions.
