Gurnam Singh alias Billa has been arrested for firing in the air in the street in Mandwala village of Faridkot. Police have recovered a revolver and cartridges from him. Despite the family's persuasion, the accused continued firing, causing panic in the village and putting people's lives in danger. Police have registered the case and started further action.
The Supreme Court postponed till March 11 the hearing on the plea of transfer of Beant Singh murder case convict Jagtar Singh Hawara from Tihar Jail to Punjab jail. Hawara has demanded transfer citing no case pending in Delhi and his daughter in Punjab. He has also boasted of his impeccable behavior in jail.
Jalandhar Municipal Corporation will collect outstanding fees of Rs 8 crore from telecom companies providing broadband and other services for the last 10 years. 17-year-old Sahrita Khatoon died under suspicious circumstances in Salem Tabri, Ludhiana. Police are calling it suicide, while injury marks have been found on his neck and body. Nikhil, a 20-year-old engineering student of a private university in Phagwara, Kapurthala, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the ninth floor. He was a resident of Sunnar Khurd village near Phillaur. He was taken to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A young man entered the house of 87-year-old Janak Devi in JP Nagar, Jalandhar and looted gold bangles from her at knifepoint. Prime Minister Modi virtually flagged off 25 new electric buses for Chandigarh from Guwahati. Now there are a total of 105 e-buses in the city, and 75 more will be available by April-May.
